How Security Shapes Our Culture at StellarAlgo

Vijish Vijayan joined StellarAlgo in 2023 as Director of Saas Ops & Security, stepping into a fast-moving environment where trust and growth go hand in hand. Now as our VP of SaaS Ops & Security, Vijish is helping shape a security-first mindset that’s deeply human, highly scalable, and rooted in the belief that empowered people are the best defense, and our biggest advantage.

Finding the right kind of challenge: What drew you to StellarAlgo? 

I wasn’t necessarily looking for a new job, I was looking for the right fit. Somewhere I could grow, make an impact, and be trusted to lead with autonomy. After speaking with StellarAlgo’s CTO, Sean Fynn, something clicked. The role wasn’t about checking boxes, it was about building something that mattered. He said: “You’ve got this. I’ll help where I can, but I trust you to take the lead.” 

That kind of trust is rare, and it’s part of what makes StellarAlgo different.

You stepped into the VP of Saas Ops & Security role less than two years later. What helped prepare you for that? 

The biggest thing was the culture of ownership at StellarAlgo. From day one, I was trusted to learn, lead, and build, not just manage a to-do list. That freedom made me a better problem solver, but also a better teammate. 

I also had great mentors and support along the way within the broader leadership team. There’s an openness at StellarAlgo, a willingness to share information, give feedback, and elevate people who show initiative.

How would you describe the security culture at StellarAlgo? 

Security at StellarAlgo isn’t a silo. It’s embedded into the way we think and work across all teams. We make security approachable. We talk about it during onboarding, in Slack threads, even at the coffee machine. It’s part of our culture because people at StellarAlgo care about doing the right thing and about keeping each other safe.

Security, AI, and staying ahead of change: What gets you most excited from a SaaS and security perspective as you look ahead? 

AI and automation are changing how every team operates, security included. I don’t see it as a threat. I see it as an opportunity to make space for deeper, more strategic work. We use AI to help build smarter playbooks, respond faster to incidents, and reduce the noise. It’s not about replacing people, it’s about amplifying them. 

The real future of security? It’s cultural. It’s about building habits, awareness, and trust across the organization so every person feels like they have a role to play.

Culture evolves with scale. What has stayed the same as StellarAlgo has grown and what has changed? 

The pace has picked up and the stakes are higher. What hasn’t changed is the care people bring, for each other and for the work. There’s a shared belief at StellarAlgo that when you bring people together, treat them with respect, and give them space to grow, amazing things happen. That was true when I joined and it’s still true now.

What would you tell someone thinking about joining StellarAlgo? 

Come ready to learn and come ready to lead. You don’t need to have all the answers. If you’re curious, adaptable, and motivated by meaningful work, you’ll thrive here. We move quickly. We support each other. We care deeply about doing things the right way, for our customers, and for our team.
