StellarAlgo

Description: StellarAlgo’s new Director of Product Innovation and Analytics shares his reflections after attending his first company-wide event, leaving feeling inspired and energized. Read his top three takeaways on product innovation, team bonding, and collaboration.

In my first few months at StellarAlgo, I’ve seen how fast things move and there’s so much to learn. But I’ve never felt overwhelmed and I think that’s a testament to the support that we get from leadership and the team around us.

I joined this year as the Director of Product Innovation and Analytics, and our March Madness event this spring was my first opportunity to meet the entire company in person. I left the week feeling more comfortable in my role, inspired, and motivated for what’s ahead.

March Madness is a week-long annual event where the entire team comes together to learn and connect. Here are my top three highlights and takeaways from the March Madness events this year.

1. The StellarAlgo product roadmap is exciting, innovative, and evolving with AI.

I was first a customer of StellarAlgo in 2023 when I worked as the Manager of Business Intelligence at an NHL team. From that experience, I had a great impression of the product itself, and the company because of our close-knit community in sports technology.

The product has changed a lot since then. I was amazed at March Madness to hear presentations about technology improvements and initiatives. We’re considering AI and its impact and discussed new StellarAlgo product offerings, such as data connectors, which let sports organizations utilize new data without full integration delay.

We heard from owners of different product initiatives across teams, and got the chance to ask questions, and share ideas. For a new employee like me, it was drinking from the firehose and so much learning about everything going on at StellarAlgo, where we’re headed, and the vision from Vince Ircandia, Founder and CEO.

2. Intentional team bonding makes collaboration so much easier.

There’s so much time and focus StellarAlgo puts into team bonding and getting people feeling comfortable collaborating. It’s a company that really puts attention into the personal connection side.

At March Madness, there were a variety of events like team dinners, a pottery class, and a company-wide event at an arcade bar. Throughout the week, I had lots of coffee chats with people across teams to get to know them more too.

It makes collaborating easier down the road when I’m reaching out to someone to ask: Hey, can I get a few minutes of your time? Or do you mind helping me with this project? I’ve already had the chance to get to know them during an in-person event, which helped me build a relationship that also supports establishing trust with your team.

We’re a hybrid company, so the attention that goes into planning social activities and building relationships is really important. Not all companies do that and it makes a difference in how teams collaborate and really support each other at work.

3. It’s amazing what our technical teams can build in a focused sprint at CodeJam.

CodeJam was another highlight, where our technical teams had two days to collaborate on solving product mapping issues.

I was so impressed to see how quickly they developed a tangible solution. Seeing the team come together to deliver something so helpful and creative in such a short amount of time was amazing to me. The technical teams are incredibly talented problem-solvers and I’m excited to work with them more.

Being open and curious

Things move quickly here, and that comes with amazing opportunities to learn. In my first three months at StellarAlgo, I’ve gained so much knowledge technically, about our product, and company strategy, helping customer teams and leagues.

March Madness left me feeling confident in my role, inspired by the team, and excited for the future at StellarAlgo.
